George said he didn’t do it. That the body isn’t his little Angelina. But that’s all he’s ever said – no other defense, no other explanation.
Dani Trumball, an attorney for the Help Innocent Prisoners Project, wants to believe him. After all, there was no forensic evidence that the body in the woods was George’s daughter. But if the girl isn’t Angelina, then who is it? And what happened to the Calhouns’ missing daughter?
For nineteen years, George Calhoun has stayed silent. But that’s about to change, and the story he tells Dani—if it’s true—changes everything.

by J.B. Hickman

Jacob’s resentment toward his family reaches an all-time high when his father doesn’t bother to see him off for the 1980 school year. With a self-absorbed mother, an estranged father, and an older brother on the other side of the world, only the unlikely friendship with his grandfather can lure Jacob back home. But home feels like a distant memory from the shore of Raker Island, the isolated campus of one of the Northeast’s elite boarding schools.

As the surrogate bonds of a cloistered all-boys school fall into place, Jacob finds himself among other sons of privilege who suffer the same affliction—growing up in their fathers’ shadow. In fact, Jacob and his friends get dubbed “the Headliners” when their fathers make the headlines on the same day. Among them is Chris Forsythe, the rebellious son of a high-profile politician whose helicopter arrival sparks jealousy among the school’s upperclassmen.

Wellington Academy has been selected to host that fall’s senatorial debate, and Chris’ father is one of the candidates. Chris convinces Jacob—who is among the students selected to question the candidates on live television—to expose his father for embezzling money to finance his reelection campaign. Only Mr. O’Leary, Wellington’s inquisitive history teacher, stands in the way of Chris’ influence over Jacob. He alone can stop the inevitable head-on father-son collision that Chris is guiding Jacob toward. But when tragedy strikes, Jacob is forced to journey into the past to reclaim a well-guarded family secret.

The Great Leap Forward

by Armand Burke

Satire.

The year is 1978. China is an isolated empire of conspiracy, deception and delusion.

From Radio Beijing comes the astonishing announcement: China will unilaterally disarm. Is this a Great Leap Forward for mankind—or a plot to take over the world?

Into this surreal landscape steps Number Five, a master spy of undisclosed nationality. What he finds in China is so shocking, so strange, so far beyond the usual categories of fact or fiction, that the story of his mission must be passed off as fantasy for the next thirty-five years. It’s as if Kafka, Borges and Wittgenstein, after binging on Fu Manchu novels and the Illuminatus trilogy, had decided to write a spy novel, with a little help from Lewis Carroll.

How I Paid $8 For $170 Worth Of Groceries

by Charmaine Gerber

Have you ever handed over $8 to the check out clerk for $170 worth of groceries at the local supermarket?

I have. The clerk had to call in the manager, he came down and examined every single item on the receipt but in the end he confirmed that there was no mistake. Of course there was no mistake! It had taken a little bit of planning, but when opportunities like these presented themselves, I was ready to take advantage of it. Will you be ready if an opportunity like this presents itself again?

Whilst feats such as this may not be possible every time you shop, I estimate that ordinary Americans are throwing away many thousands of dollars each year on groceries, clothing, eating out, make up, toiletries, vitamins and more.

My name is Charmaine Gerber. I love coupons and I love saving money. So much so that I have developed a savings system that can help you save thousands of dollars a year on everyday items in only 1-2 hours per week. I decided to let you know exactly how I did it (and continue to do it, week in, week out).

This system is not like many others that are advertised out there. It is about saving the most money on a range of essentials items in the least amount of time possible. This system can literally save you thousands of dollars a year.

Through his travels, he found varying degrees of kindness in strangers from all walks of life–and discovered more about people and values and life on the road in America than he’d ever thought possible. The gifts of food and shelter he received along the way were outweighed only by the touching gifts of the heart–the willingness of many he met to welcome a lonely stranger into their homes…and the discovery that sometimes those who give the most are the ones with the least to spare.

Origins

by Mark Henrikson

Dr. Holmes was thoroughly bored with his psychiatric profession until he met Hastelloy. The man is named after a durable metal capable of surviving under high-stress service where more common materials fail; ironic considering he’s an insane asylum patient.

Hastelloy is convinced he’s locked in a battle for the survival of mankind with the mysterious species Alpha. This conflict supposedly began when Hastelloy and his alien crew crashed on Earth during the time of ancient Egypt. Dr. Holmes listens with understandable skepticism to the patient’s story about his involvement with building the Great Pyramid and Sphinx, bringing about the rise of Pharaohs, and even assisting Moses with the slave exodus to the Promised Land. Is Hastelloy crazy, or is it crazy to ignore him?
