Dear Bob And Sue

by Matt Smith

Dear Bob and Sue chronicles our journey to visit all 59 US national parks, written as a series of emails to our friends, Bob and Sue.

This book is NOT a guidebook to the national parks with eloquent descriptions of scenery, although many reviewers have said they use it as a guide when visiting the parks. Our book doesn’t have pictures or maps (too expensive) or a table of contents (too hard to figure out in a digital format). There are no vampires or teenage paranormal fantasies in this book. And, since we’re not writers by profession you might find grammatical errors we didn’t catch. Instead, these emails to Bob and Sue, written over a span of two years, contain random observations about the parks we visited, the people we met and what we ate for lunch. Some of the consistent themes are Matt’s OCD (he claims there is no “D”), squirrels, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and beer; with a mid-air plane collision and some grizzly bears thrown in for added excitement.

Writing On The Wall

by Tracey Ward

It’s been nearly a decade since the world ended. Since Joss watched her parents die at the hands of a nightmare, a nightmare that stalks her even now, all these years later. That’s the problem with the Risen – they refuse to die.

Orphans like Joss.

Now a new outbreak is imminent and the Colonists are closing in. Joss’ solitary, secret world is blown wide open and the comfortable numbness she’s lived in for the last six years will burn away leaving her aching and afraid.

The Recluse Storyteller

by Mark W Sasse

The twins, beckoned by an ominous streak of light across the sky, climb Harper’s Hill to encounter an apparition of their missing father.

The reverend stands on a muddy ridge, the barrel of a rifle in his neck, looking down on a Vietnamese village, scarred by war and regret.

The brash terrorist, Red Hat, desperately tries to walk away from life unscathed and unattached.

The stories haunt Margaret every waking moment, but they are anything but random. A fractured view Michael Cheevers’ red hat through a discreetly cracked door sends her off on adventure. A glimpse of the Johnson twins from apartment 2D transports her mind to the lonely hill on a Midwestern prairie in 1887. The regular letters from Reverend Davies bring her to the brink of exhaustion as she stares intensely into the heart of war, deep in the jungle of Vietnam.

Margaret is not insane, at least not in a clinical sense. She’s like a midnight raccoon, painfully aware of her surroundings, gleaning crumbs of information at every turn. Her eyes peer incessantly in the night, stealing glances of the neighbors through partially opened doors.

But the tales she weaves were not meant to merely hold empty court to the receptive dead air of her apartment. Her stories were meant to embolden the lives of the inhabitants of that drab apartment block because her story is also their story–and everything would be different if they could only hear the prophetic words of the rambling recluse.

Caught In Time

by Sheron Wood McCartha

Rowyna Grae always thought that she was human until the day Arwoyn Telluria revealed that she had been created in a test tube using parts of his DNA, including the specific gene for time travel. He confides to her that she came to him long ago when he was a young child telling him that she was from the far future. So, he has created her to return to fulfill her destiny. But things go awry and Arwoyn dies too soon, the new regime wants to turn her into a stealth assassin, and the young lab assistant, Richard Steele, sends her to the wrong places and loses her.

She lands with dangerously packed bags a thousand years into the past at the king’s hunting lodge with instructions to kill him as he is considered the original mutant that started the dangerous genetic line of what is called, “Talents”. Within a mere day, she manages to kill six men as she defends herself against robbers and rapists..and, of course, falls in love with the very man she is meant to kill not knowing who he really is. A gun, a book, and an alien crystal found in her luggage creates havoc as she changes the past and reorders Richard Steele’s world up the time stream. The charming medieval past isn’t so charming when there is no running water, no central heat, intrigue at the royal court and war on the horizon.

Will she be forever “caught in time” or will she be “caught in time for a final rescue? What can a resourceful replicant do? Well, the answer is…a lot, and therein hangs the tale.
