Daughter Of Twin Oaks

by Lauraine Snelling

Will the Wounded Soldier She Rescues From Certain Death be Able to Break Down the Walls of Bitterness That Surround Her Heart?

Seeking to fulfill the promise she made to her dying father, eighteen-year-old Jesselynn Highwood determines to take her little brother and the family’s remaining Thoroughbreds from Twin Oaks plantation in Kentucky to her uncle’s farm in Missouri, where they will be safe for the remainder of the Civil War.

Jesselynn is also fleeing a cruel man in Confederate uniform who has pledged to take revenge against her for refusing his hand in marriage. No longer safe at Twin Oaks, she embarks on a perilous journey, taking on the momentous responsibility for the lives and welfare of all who go with her.

They ride at night and hide during the day, dodging both Confederate and Union troops along the way. Encountering hunger, sickness, and the devastation of war, they finally arrive in Missouri only to discover that the situation there puts them in even greater danger. Discouraged, disillusioned, and facing a severe testing of her faith, Jesselynn will stop at nothing to save her family, the horses, and whatever remains of Twin Oaks.

My Honor Flight

by Dan McCurrigan

This novel tells the story of a young soldier who accompanies his great-grandfather, Doug Mackinack, on an Honor Flight – a sponsored trip to the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.

During the flight, the old man shares stories from his platoon’s tour in Europe, many ending in dramatic (or occasionally, humorous) twists.

The stories share not only suspenseful situations, but also the emotional impact of the platoon’s journey through a broad range of humanity: Fear. Courage. Compassion. Anger. Love. Death. Loyalty. Mercy. Retribution.

In a final defining moment near the end of his tour, Mackinack is forced to decide his path in a split second. Will he return to the man he was before the war, or will he become the killer the war created?

When Mackinack and his great grandson reach the monument, there is one final surprise tied to events sixty six years earlier.

Winds Of Dalmatia

by Tanja Tuma

Maria Perić has gone through her personal hell during the Balkan war and survived. Now in her sixties, she leads a comfortable life managing a hotel on a quiet island, and raising her beloved Paula. Her past is as shady as the source of her wealth. When Paula falls ill with leukemia, there’s only one way to save her — Maria must tell the truth, and Paula must face the Serbian war criminal awaiting his verdict from the International Criminal Tribunal at the Hague Hilton.

In her spare time, Maria escapes reality by researching the history of her homeland Dalmatia. Her historical saga begins with a Greek colony in the Sixth Century B.C. on the isle of Korčula, followed by a chapter on the Roman times, the era of the Emperor Diocletian, born in Dalmatia.

Her research moves to Dubrovnik, as the mighty Republic of Ragusa blooms in the Fourteenth Century, challenging the Venetians in the Adriatic. The Fifteenth Century witnesses the Ottoman Empire bring Islam to the hinterland of Dalmatia. Readers will thrill to the intrigues of a harem where a young rebellious wife and a eunuch long for freedom and love.

As World War I demands more soldiers, a mother decides to commit her beloved son to the safety of the Blaca monastery on the island of Brač, which saves him from the front. Yet the mother still loses him, and her wrath is terrible.

Passage Graves

by Madyson Rush

Archeologist David Hyden is hell-bent to disprove his Biblical archeologist father’s religious theories. After his father is found dead at the center of Stonehenge with a strange glowing spiral engraved into his palm, David decides to challenge his father’s theory that Maeshowe—a passage grave ruin in Stenness, Scotland—possesses metaphysical powers. However, the morning after his arrival in Stenness, David wakes to find everyone else in town is dead.

NATO pathologist Brynne Thatcher is trained to recognize the subtle features of subsonic death, a unique forte and her only leg-up in a career dominated by men. Sound is the ideal weapon: an indiscriminate killer that leaves almost no trace upon its victims. She is testing an acoustic cannon in the grasslands a short distance from Stenness. Thatcher is certain her weapon caused the Stenness massacre, but all bets are off when she pinpoints Maeshowe as the source of deadly noise. The ruin erupts with low-frequency sound every 77 hours. Each explosion is larger and deadlier than the last. The only clues to stopping Maeshowe are the spiral petroglyph glowing inside its central chamber and the lone survivor, David.

Investigating the connection between the two glowing spiral symbols, Thatcher and David uncover Brenton’s most bizarre theory: There are four locks and four keys lost throughout antiquity. Any man who finds a matching lock and key will gain one of the powers of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse (Conqueror, War, Plague, and Death). Displacement of a key awakened the passage grave. Unless the “key” is placed into the petroglyph “lock,” the ruin will kill every living thing.

Finding the key won’t be easy. A clandestine brotherhood known as the Abaddon is sworn to protect the keys. As Maeshowe’s eruption spreads across northern Europe, the leadership of the Abaddon crumbles. A new leader of the dark society seeks to become Conqueror, and a race to the Apocalypse begins.
